Welcome
Nestled in the historic district of Yankton, Webster Elementary School is the proud home to approximately 395 students. The “Webster Winners" consist of students in grades Preschool-5th Grade. A trip down Mulberry Street will guide you to our building with the beautiful Auld-Brokaw trail running on the south side of the school.
In addition to students enrolled in Webster’s Kindergarten-5th Grade, we proudly house Yankton School District’s early childhood classrooms for our 3, 4, and 5 year old children. These children are enrolled in Preschool and Jr. Kindergarten. The district currently has eleven sections of tuition-free Preschool and four sections of Jr. Kindergarten due to overwhelming parent support and request. We offer developmentally appropriate programs for early success and foster an environment for superior learning and interactions through rich social environments.
Preschool
Preschoolers need to be physically, socially, cognitively, and artistically active. They also deserve a rich, social environment in a developmentally appropriate setting as they learn by playing, exploring, questioning, and experimenting!
The YSD implemented a preschool program for 3 and 4-year-olds in the fall of 2007. Our program expanded in the fall of 2010, 2017, and 2018 due to overwhelming parental requests. This expansion has allowed us to house four preschool programs at Webster School in order to service 198 students.
Jr. Kindergarten
The Yankton School District offers all day, every day Jr. Kindergarten. Jr. Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before September 1 of the current school year. Jr. K is specifically designed for those students who have spring or summer birthdays. It gives these students an opportunity to learn in a developmentally appropriate setting while having the opportunity to engage in a variety of learning activities that keep children moving! YSD also has all day, everyday Kindergarten.
Research shows that an early childhood intervention, such as Jr. K, develops children with higher self-esteem and better confidence. This directly relates to higher student achievement and success. Students who complete a year of Jr. K enter Kindergarten the next fall much more prepared for school with ample readiness skills to learn the appropriate state standards in reading and math.
